Machine won’t fill, or fills painfully slowly? Before you call anyone, most causes are at the back of the machine and free to fix.
What causes it
- The water supply tap is turned off or only part-open
- Kinked or blocked fill hose
- Blocked mesh filter where the fill hose screws on (they clog with grit)
- Door not shut properly — it won’t fill until it’s latched
- Faulty water inlet valve
Quick checks you can do yourself
Check the water tap behind the machine is fully on. Look that the fill hose isn’t kinked. Then unscrew the fill hose (have a towel ready) and check the little mesh filter in the connection isn’t clogged — clean it under the tap. Make sure the door clicks shut.
Is it worth calling someone out?
If the supply and filters are fine, the inlet valve has likely gone — around £90–£140 fitted. On an older machine, that’s replace-or-rent territory.
