An F05 error on a Hotpoint (or Indesit) washing machine is a drainage fault — the machine either can’t pump the water out, or isn’t sensing that the drum has emptied.
What F05 means
It points to a drain/pressure problem. Usual causes: a blocked pump filter, a blocked or kinked waste hose, a faulty drain pump, or a pressure switch fault.
Quick checks you can do yourself
Start with the pump filter at the bottom-front — towel and bowl ready, unscrew slowly and clear anything trapped. Check the drain hose isn’t kinked and the standpipe / waste under the sink isn’t blocked. That clears a good number of F05s for free.
Is it worth calling someone out?
If it’s clear and F05 persists, you’re likely looking at a drain pump or pressure switch repair — around £90–£160. On an older machine that’s had other faults, replacing beats repairing.
